Russia’s invasion of Ukrain

In 2022, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine marked a turning point in Europe’s contemporary history. As a documentary photographer, my work in Ukraine was not solely about capturing the brutality of war, but also about documenting resistance, dignity, and the silent void that fear leaves behind.

I traveled through cities like Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, where the sound of explosions clashed with the silence of abandoned homes—of broken objects that once belonged to someone. Each image was an attempt to translate the devastation: people left homeless yet clinging to the place where they were born, refusing to lose their heritage; entire families sleeping in metro stations turned into underground shelters; grandparents burying their grandchildren in makeshift cemeteries; cities and buildings reduced to rubble—once schools, hospitals, or homes.

Photographing in the midst of horror was also an act of humanity. Beyond destruction, I sought to capture traces of hope, of attachment, of quiet resistance.

My camera was not just a witness—it was a bridge to tell what must not be forgotten.
